2009: 10th Anniversary Events
What a year 2009 was!
It was, of course, our tenth anniversary. See below for some of the events we held here in Knoydart, with more details in the menu to the left.
March
26th March Celebration Day Join friends and colleagues and the community in celebrating 10 years of community ownership. 11.30 to 2.30pm
28th March Music and dancing Join us for an evening of music with Vaguely Cajun
April
8th April Knoydart Spring Watch – Coastal wildlife scramble Ranger-led walk along the sandy beaches near Sandaig 11.30am
15th April Knoydart Spring Watch – a walk through the past. A walk and talk to learn about Knoydart before the clearances 11.30am
17/18th April Knoydart’s 10 Music festival. A weekend of some of the best music around –Tickets cost £55 and are available from www.thebooth.co.uk
22nd April Knoydart Spring Watch – Woodland wander. A walk through the oak and ash woods of Scottas with the ranger 11.30am
25th April Knoydart Spring Watch – Eagles. Brief presentation and then a wander in the hills looking for golden eagles. 9am. BOOKING ESSENTIAL. Max 8 people. Price to be confirmed.
29th April Knoydart Spring Watch – Vegetation monitoring. Come and help us with this annual study of Knoydart’s habitats. 11.30am
May
3rd May Knoydart Spring Watch – International Dawn Chorus Day. An early stroll through the woods to hear this wonderful natural phenomena 4.30am
13th May Underwater Loch Nevis – talk by local marine biologist Mark Woombs, Knoydart village hall. 6pm
6th May James Hawkins art exhibition, London James Hawkins will be exhibiting recent work showing views of Knoydart at the SW1 gallery in London. Friends of Knoydart will receive an invite to attend an evening reception
27th May We are honoured to have author Ian McEwan giving a book reading, Knoydart village hall. 7pm
June
10/11/12th June James Hawkins art exhibition, Knoydart James will be bringing a selection of prints to exhibit here on Knoydart in the Village Hall. Prints will be available to purchase (see June)
20th to 28th June The Big Rhodie Bash. The Knoydart Forest Trust are organising the big rhodie bash with the aim of completing the removal of the last of the rhodies on Foundation ground. Over 50 volunteers are expected – contact Grant at the KFT office on 462560 for more information, or email forest(at)knoydart.org – the KFT are also organising an ongoing artwork for the duration of the celebrations, as well as workshops on wood building
27th June Craft fair. A day of arts and crafts on Knoydart

July
20 to 24th July Renewable energy and carbon reduction. Knoydart Renewables, our local energy company, will be organising a week of events and activities for all those wanting to make a difference
August
14th to 21st August The Big Beach Clean – cleaning 10km of our coast line. Friends of Knoydart will be helping to clean 10km of our coastline. Contact the Foundation office for more details
September
5th September Mick Tighe – join Mick at the village hall for an evening of images from Knoydart
October
3rd October The 10k run Run Knoydart – you have the choice of 10km, the toughest half marathon (possibly!) or just stick to the kids run!
3rd October The End Ceilidh Celebrate the end of the celebrations with Gary Innes and his band
7th October Knoydart Autumn Watch – a walk through the past. A walk and talk to learn about Knoydart before the clearances 11.30am
10th October Knoydart Autumn Watch – Red deer rut A wander in the hills to see the stags roaring in the glens. 9am. BOOKING ESSENTIAL. Max 8 people. Price to be confirmed.
14th October Knoydart Autumn Watch – To-wit-to-woo walk An evening walk through Inverie Woods to look for owls and other nocturnal wildlife. 5pm.
17th October Knoydart Autumn watch – Red deer rut. A wander in the hills to see the stags roaring in the glens. 9am.
