Community Broadband Access

Started early in 2010, this is a joint project involving the communities of Arnisdale, Eigg and Knoydart aimed at providing broadband internet access for the area surrounding the Small Isles, Sleat Peninsula, Loch Nevis, and Loch Hourn.

Building on the successful Tegola research project run by the University of Edinburgh and the University of the Highlands and Islands, the aim is to establish a community run company providing high speed internet access to this remote and sparsely populated area.

Working with the Highland Council, the plan is to integrate access to the recently launched Pathfinder service with wide area wireless network distribution to provide fast and reliable internet access.

Information about the Tegola Project can be found at www.tegola.org.uk. and on Community Broadband in the following document “Broadband White Paper”.
